UFO 50 releases on Nintendo Switch in Indie World Showcase twist

UFO 50 was an indie hit when it launched on PC last year, and Nintendo Switch players have been envying Steam Deck users ever since. Well, now they can enjoy its bounty of games as UFO 50 surprise launched on Switch Thursday after the Indie World showcase.

UFO 50 includes 50 fully-fledged singleplayer and multiplayer games, which includes co-op and versus titles. They all have a retro feel with 1980s 8-bit graphics and encompass a variety of genres, from shoot ’em ups to puzzle games. They may not all land with you, but you surely won’t be lacking for choice or variety.

There’s a connective tissue throughout UFO 50 that elevates it as more than just 50 random retro-style games. Each game is presented as the work of a fictional 80s studio, UFO Soft, and some are sequels to games in the collection. UFO Soft was ahead of its time as some characters share continuity between games; a UFO Soft Universe, if you will. Nintendo devotees can now revel in the NEScore gameplay on what’s like their system of choice.

UFO 50 is available on Nintendo Switch today. Players who prefer a physical release can preorder from Fangamer, which has a standard edition and a deluxe edition that includes a 116-page guide book.
