Dust Bunny trailer reveals the Hannibal reunion fans have been waiting for
Hannibal fans are getting a reunion this year, but it won’t be the one they expect. Bryan Fuller, the TV creator behind Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, is teaming up with Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange) for his feature directorial debut, Dust Bunny. The film just got its first trailer, which you can check out above.
In Hannibal, Mikkelsen played the legendary cannibal killer best-known for his supporting part in The Silence of the Lambs, where he was portrayed by Anthony Hopkins. Fuller’s TV series expanded the character, giving him more depth over the course of its three seasons — though some fans still hope for a fourth. In Dust Bunny, Mikkelsen will take on a different kind of role, swapping his penchant for killing and eating other humans for something only a tad more altruistic: using his hit-man skills to help slay monsters.
In the trailer, 10-year-old Aurora (Sophie Sloan) explains that her family didn’t believe that there were monsters living under her bed until one night they were gobbled up. Or at least, that’s what she thinks. Mikkelsen, whose character’s name has not been revealed, believes Aurora’s parents have been swept up in his own drama as a hit-man. He’s been killing for a while, but now the assassins have gone a step too far. Feeling guilty, Mikkelsen’s protagonist agrees to help Aurora.
Mikkelsen and Sloan are joined by Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar: Fire and Ash), who seems to know the true nature of Mikkelsen’s career and warns him against being skeptical about Aurora believing in monsters. Whatever’s going on in Dust Bunny, things aren’t what they seem on the surface.
The Dust Bunny trailer reveals a kaleidoscope of color and action, with Mikkelsen’s character going up against an onslaught of assassins with designs to hurt Aurora. There’s also a moment where, bizarrely, we see Weaver seemingly fire at enemies wielding stiletto heels. Couple this with shadow monsters, martial arts, and the mystery behind what really happened to Aurora’s parents, and this horror flick looks to bring plenty of action with its scares when it arrives in theaters on Dec. 5.
